Knox UpholsterY; a new generation of upholsterer and Upholstery.

Rachel Fletcher, also known as Knox Upholstery, didn't grow up in the trade, she’s self-made. She practiced, cracked open books, watched videos, found a community full of educators and learned from their expertise - she honed her skills. After obtaining a B.A. in Communications and spending a few years in marketing and advertising, Rachel chose the furniture upholstery trade to dedicate her working life to.  “I have a passion for furniture, the environment and for keeping as much furniture out of the landfill as possible.”

Rachel can 8-way hand-tie, with the best of them. Deep-button tufting is her favorite and she can knock out a cushion with precision. “I can biscuit tuft like butter, and you can bounce a quarter off my webbing!!!” Rachel likes to work with a mixture of traditional and modern supplies and techniques. She prefers cotton batting over poly/Dacron, but will use either depending on the application. You’ll find her with a hammer and nails one day and a pneumatic gun and staples the next. “I always sit-test my furniture for comfort and I never send anything out the door I’m not proud of.”

Knox Upholstery is a one-woman shop. Rachel is stripping the piece all the way down to the frame and building it back up again, personally. Your cushions, skirt and panels aren’t being sewn by someone else, Rachel is constructing and machining them, herself. She’s pattern matching and upholstering it with care, creativity and the utmost attention to detail.  “You came to Knox Upholstery for a bespoke piece for your space, and that’s what you are going to get.”

Rachel has worked on everything from authentic Knoll womb chairs to Stickley couches, from authentic Eames chairs and their knock-offs to Steelcase office chairs and the common Bergere chair found in most classically styled homes. She works with individual clients,  designers, architectural firms, and more. Knox Upholstery may not work on overnight commercial items (such as booths and restaurant chairs), but Rachel can take care of those special items requiring a bit more time and attention for your commercial space.

Past clients include: HGTV, Nickelodeon, Blackberry Farm, US-TN Courts, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and countless individual residences throughout East Tennessee, and, “I would love to work with you.”

Knox Upholstery is licensed and Insured.
